Battle of the Search Engines

These days, you can find just about anything in an online search. Want to find out the most popular ice cream flavors? Just Google it. Want to know what people are saying right now about last night’s episode of “The Bachelorette”? Search it on Twitter. Microsoft has even come up with its own search tool, Bing, and is promoting it as a “decision tool” that organizes search results and helps prevent information overload. (Watch their new commercial, it’s hilarious!)  And just when you thought finding information couldn’t get any easier, Facebook has jumped on the search tool bandwagon.

Facebook, which just surpassed MySpace in the number of US traffic per month, recently announced the launch of their new search application.  In addition to searching profiles, groups and applications, and news feeds, the new Facebook search tool has hopes of eventually rivaling other major search engines.

And apparently when search engines compete, you win.  Massive amounts of information are now available at your finger tips, almost instantly.  Definitely a far cry from the days before internet – what’s a dictionary again?
