How to Have a Birthday for Free

My spending has finally paid off! Last week I received several gift cards and coupons for everything from Harry’s Bar & Grill to Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, which made for a wonderful pre birthday celebration starting with shopping and ending with dinner. What more could a girl want?!

Retailers and restaurants are beginning to kick it into high gear, offering small discounts getting you to come in and spend more. They are able to target loyal customers (that’s me) with special discounts or sales via zip code or other demographic categories, or birthdays 🙂 Current customers are more likely to be a repeat purchaser, which means less money spent trying to find new ones. But if you’re new to a market or aiming for a younger audience that’s never tried your product, gift cards and coupons have their place too. Sears has been using this tactic for several months now. Their current promotion targeting Back-to-School shopping pushes becoming their friend on Facebook and you’ll get a $10 coupon.

Whether you take the discount and run or spend hours in the store, they’ve got your attention and that’s the name of the game. Hummm, maybe I can get enough coupons to pay for my husband’s birthday!
