The process of graphic design remains of mystery for most people outside of the profession. My mom thinks I draw pictures all day. Design can be described as a verb, not a noun. While most of us designers are artistic people, the process of design is meant to promote a product or service. The goal is to engage our viewer and push the message of the brand. Imagine the cans of window cleaner on the self at the grocery store. Does one stand out over the other? What makes this particular product more appealing? The design! The designer thought about the product’s message and which elements would make this particular can of window cleaner stand out from the others sitting next to it. The most successful designs ditch decoration and distraction and promote visibility of the message. The process can actually be quite complex. And only part of my days are spent drawing pictures :).
